Educators, Librarians & Youth Leaders On-line Resources

While forestry education programs have deep roots in Wisconsin, methods of delivery have changed over the years! Bill Sylvester, an emeritus professor of forestry at UW-Steven Point, remembers, "In 1938 when I was a cooperative forest ranger with the Wisconsin Conservation Department, I taught school children about conservation in the central and north central parts of Wisconsin. I showed movies on a 16-millimeter movie machine that ran on six, six-volt batteries, since most of the one-room schools didn't have electricity. For many of those school kids, it was the first time they saw a movie." Today, forestry education is still a high priority but newer technology is used! Trees for Tomorrow in Eagle River, Wisconsin

This is one of the Midwest's leading natural resource specialty schools and is widely known for their effectiveness in teaching conservation and management concepts to students, teachers and the public.Trees For Tomorrow is celebrating its 60th anniversary in 2004 and is producing a children's picture book on forestry in Wisconsin. "In Grandpa's Woods" will be available at your local Wisconsin library in May or purchase your own copy through the Trees For Tomorrow online gift shop.
